Traffic Stop
A fundamental call for all troopers, regardless of rank or division, is a traffic stop.
DOs
Initiate with Code-3
Position Vehicle safely and properly
Identify yourself properly and fully
Inform dispatch of vehicle description
Give clear instructions
Remain professionalism
Run through MDT
DON’Ts
Pull over without suspicion or cause
Match annoyance with annoyance
Make unnecessary demands
Over-escalate the situation
Assume the vehicle matches the driver
Charge without cause
Traffic stops are primarily conducted to enforce traffic laws, and/or stop possibly wanted persons or stolen vehicles.
First step for traffic stops is proper vehicle placement. The patrol vehicle should be center aligned with the other vehicles left tail light and slightly turn to the left, while remaining in code 2. (Ask the person to pull over to right, and turn off the engine)

Once positioned, officer must inform dispatch about the vehicle description via /100. /100 Traffic stop near Main Garage Red Kuruma ACB Check MDT for warrants on Vehicle. If there’s no warrant continue with the traffic stop
Officers shall now exit his/her vehicle and approach the vehicle
The officer shall identify themselves by giving their name and stating they are with the Police.
Request the drivers ID, and vehicle registration.
Return to your vehicle and check for warrants. If the warrants comes back Code-4 complete the traffic stop by either citing or giving a verbal warning for the infraction.
