Promotions & Discipline
Promotions are earned through constant loyalty and dedication to the police force. Command staff discuss and vote on promotions. The following guidance will help you to achieve your goals:
Be active, sensibly. Promotions are not only based on putting in the hours. Activity is valued, but it is only one factor in the promotion discussion.
Work on cases. There are a lot of cases daily, often with dead or close ends. Extra sets of eyes help solve the cases and build up strong working relationships with your colleagues.
Use feedback given to you and try to constantly improve. Showing that you are capable of taking constructive criticism and using it to make yourself better is crucial.
Train cadets. The KCPD gets recruits frequently and they are core to a growing police force. FTO or not, take cadets awaiting patrol and show them the ropes, to make them feel part of this police family. If you are unable to, encourage or ask others to do so.
Be the leader. Leadership and people that are capable of taking command are an important topic to consider in who is capable of moving on to the next rank. Direct, assign, help, lead, and always with respect.
Do not ask or beg staff for promotion. It will likely work against you. Don’t solicit for recommendations amongst troopers either.
